Boyne Valley
This Tour will take you out and around County Meath. Newgrange is often the first stop. It is the site of ancient passage tombs and a Neolithic ritual centre. It is a listed World Heritage Site along with the Great Wall of China, The Pyramids in Egypt and Stonehenge.
The sophisticated early farmers who designed it incorporated a light box and Solar Calendar in to the passage. This was to illuminate the cremated bones of the dead in the inner Chamber during the Winter Solstice. It was also a symbolic technique to celebrate rebirth in the afterlife and the drawing of a New Year. The Lands of County Meath were once part of an ancient fifth Province from which the high kings of Tara ruled.
Many interesting sites and artefacts are incorporated into this tour to educate about this time. Other points of interest and potential stops on this tour include The hill of Tara, Melifont Abbey and the Town of Slane.
